Worship is more than just singing—it’s a lifestyle of honoring God. Worship matters. It humbles our hearts and reminds us who holds our life in His most capable hands. Worship draws us close to God and transforms us. It can look different for each of us: prayer, praise, obedience, service are among them.

What is worship?

Worship is giving God the glory He deserves. It is about the heart, not any external actions.

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” John 4:23-24

Why is Worship Important?

Worship shifts our focus and priority from ourselves to God. There has been some times in my life where I would try to do all the things and worry myself about things I couldn’t control but when I come back to worship and I remember just who it is that I serve, I’m no longer focused on me. I am focused on Him. Worship deepens our relationship with God and strengthens our faith.

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.” Psalm 29:2

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1

Different Forms of Worship

Praise and Singing – Lifting voices to God

  • This is singing to God and remembering through song who He is and why He is worthy of praise.

“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100:2

Prayer and Thanksgiving – Expressing gratitude and dependence.

  • We know that when we focus on positive, we get positive. This is a mindset shift and even more so with God. When we think back on past events, we are reminded of His presence in the midst.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Obedience and Living for God – Worship through daily choices.

  • This is applying what you learn as you read the Bible and as the Holy Spirit instructs and corrects you (in love, of course. Always in love.)

“To obey is better than sacrifice.” 1 Samuel 15:22

Serving Others – Worship through loving and serving people.

  • This could be serving at your church, going the extra mile for others, or meeting the physical needs of a person in need, just to name a few.

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices, God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16

Preparing Your Heart for Worship

  • Before you worship, prepare your heart. This means approaching the throne with humility and reverence to God. Be aware of who you are talking to. Take a minute and think about His attributes, who He is and how He has shown up in your life.
  • If there is anything you know you need to repent of and bring to God, this is the time. Be open with the Holy Spirit. If you can’t think of anything to repent for, the Holy Spirit will bring it to your mind. Maybe you drove a little carelessly after being cut off, maybe you gave the person a rude gesture or maybe you used your tongue to speak evil and not good. Whatever it may be, surrender it here.

“Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.” Psalm 24:3-4

Living a Life of Worship

  • Worship doesn’t stop when we leave church—it’s a daily practice. Having this daily practice keeps us in constant awareness of God.
  • Practice a life of surrender and have intentional focus on honoring (worshiping) God in all areas of life.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17

Practical Step:

  • Set time aside to sit with God and think about how worship would play out for you in your life. Make it a daily practice!

Worship is about offering our whole selves to God. Everything that we are and have back to our Creator. His hands are the best possible place we can be. I encourage you to seek a deeper, more intimate relationship with God through worship.

Reflection Question:

  • How can I intentionally worship God this week beyond Sunday?

A Prayer for You

God,

I thank You for this post. I pray that it has helped them dip their feet into learning about the significance of worship and how it is a gift for you from us. I pray that You would help them understand how worship may look in their day-to-day life. I pray that they will have a renewed fire and can’t help but to worship You. Thank You so much that we are able to know You in this way. We love You!

In Jesus name, amen!

Love,

Terry’ana xx
